About the Award
The Chommanard Women’s Literary Award, celebrates outstanding female literary talent from ASEAN, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Sponsored by Bangkok Bank, the award highlights cultural relevance, social impact, and literary excellence. Originally established over a decade ago to honor exceptional Thai female authors, the award has since evolved to embrace a regional platform. A shortlist will be announced for each eligible country, and one winner may be selected per country only if the jury agrees the work meets the award’s standards.
Grand Prize
500,000 THB (approximately 15,000 USD) awarded to one outstanding female author among all submissions.
Shortlist
One author may be selected for shortlist of each eligible country, only if the jury agrees the work meets the award’s standards. Shortlist Winners will receive a monetary award of 60,000 THB (approximately 1,600 USD)
Country Winner Awards
One or two author may be selected for country award representative if there is no representation selected as a shortlist and if the work is considered the best in their own country according to the jurists and committee, this is only if the jury agrees the work meets the award’s standards. Country Award Winner will receive a monetary award of 40,000 THB (approximately 1,200 USD)
Judges’ Decision
All decisions by the judges are final and binding.
Translation Opportunity
Winning titles will be considered for Thai translation, pending a mutual agreement on terms, including royalties and contract conditions, and the five-year rights agreement between the host, who hold first option on Thai publication rights. If a Thai edition already exists, or the author is considering publishing a Thai edition with a publisher in Thailand, the Chommanard Committee must be notified in advance. This opportunity will require a formal agreement between the author and the publisher.
